I'll be selling my photography this weekend at the Root Division Holiday Art Sale. If you're in the neighborhood, stop by to work on your holiday shopping, or just to heckle me.
Over 30 local artists and craftspeople will come together for this one-night-only sale featuring fine art and unique hand made gifts. Rock, shop, have a photo taken with Son of Santa and explore Root Division's adult winter class schedule. Vendors include Root Division resident artists, jewelry by Reware Style and clothing and accessories by Lushorchid and Rotten Panda. With offerings ranging from paintings and photography to jewelry, hand-sewn clothing and even holiday wigs, everyone on your list will be covered. What could be better? Sipping a festive cocktail while you shop, knowing that you are also supporting local artists and Root Division's programs.

I'm always amused by our society's obsession with convenience foods. Every now and then they make sense, but most of the time they're just an exercise in sloth and excess.
Today while wandering through Albertsons, I encountered a new extreme-- individually wrapped "microwave" potatoes. Yes, you heard me right. Take potato, shrink-wrap, add a sticker that says, "Microwave for X minutes", and jack up the price. In this case, they're a buck each.
I weighed several, and it turns out that they're right around half a pound each, or maybe just a hair over.
For you rugged do-it-yourselfers, you can take two steps to the left and buy identical potatoes for $.59/pound. Of course, if you want to microwave them, you'll have to guess at the time or look it up in a book or something, because they aren't labeled.
Somewhere a marketing genius is laughing his ass off. "Hey, we can take potatoes, wrap them in plastic, and triple the price. People will eat it up!"
