What's the most drastic change you've ever made to your appearance?

Temporary or permanent?
Let's start with permanent first. I was born with a freak genetic mutation that causes my hair to be a vivid shade of fuchsia, with purple undertones. As you can imagine, having a purple-haired baby in the midwest during the mid-60s was no cup of tea, and so at a very young age my mother started dying my hair brown to compensate for it.
For all of my childhood and much of my adult life, I kept this up, dying and redying my hair on a regular basis so that nobody would see my true haircolor. And then for a while I kept coloring most of it brown, but let a few streaks of the natural fuchsia come through. Finally one day I decided I'd had enough, went to a wonderful hairdresser, and had him remove all of the accumulated brown color from my hair. The photo on the right was taken just a couple of hours after that glorious event.
As for temporary changes, I've made quite a few in my lifetime. In three out of four of these photos, people who knew me well and had known me for years completely failed to recognize me. In the fourth, they probably should have.
